Overview
PIRAMID DIRECTION CONTROL LT is a dual technology volumetric intrusion sensor which integrates a proprietary microwave design (termed Stereo Doppler) and passive infrared. These two complementary technologies must be activated simultaneously to generate an overall sensor alarm.
Advanced signal processing for each of the two technologies provide immunity to randomly moving targets such as vibration, moving vegetation and temperature variations. Special filtering enables exceptional immunity to birds and small animals. PIRAMID sensors offer highly reliable volumetric protection over a wide variety of extreme environmental conditions.
PIRAMID LT detectors can be used in various applications such as ladders on buildings, fire escapes, other ladder/tower configurations to protect property or strategic assets in industrial sites, military bases, oil rigs, critical infrastructure facilities and private residences.

The LT Version of PIRAMID is equipped with a “special housing and mounting bracket” for the sensor to look downward. When mounted in this configuration the Direction Control switch is set to “Approach Only” mode. This will enable detection of targets (intruders) climbing up the structure while ignoring rain and snow moving away from the sensor in the opposite direction.
For ladder mounting, it is recommended that the PIRAMID LT be ordered with one of PROTECH’s Ladder Mounting Brackets PH-6 or PH-6JB. These specially designed brackets reduce installation time and offer maximum flexibility when mounting to both caged and non-caged ladders.
To avoid movement on the ground, the sensor must be carefully aimed and adjusted as follows:
- Aim the sensor downward, perpendicular to the ground
- Adjust sensor’s Sensitivity Control Switch in the lower positions (Positions 1, 2 or 3)
- Adjust the Direction Control Switch in the “Approach Only” mode
The LT Version of PIRAMID will be sluggish in detecting movement on the ground when mounted perpendicular to the ground as it cannot receive a good Doppler signal.
For detection on the ground, aim the PIRAMID LT sensor outward at a slight angle to improve the Doppler signal and adjust the Sensitivity Control Switch in the higher sensitivity settings (10, 9, 8, 7, etc.)
PIRAMID LT is a dual technology volumetric intrusion sensor which integrates a proprietary Stereo Doppler microwave design and passive infrared. These two complementary technologies must be activated simultaneously to generate an intrusion alarm.
Dual-technology volumetric sensors (PIRAMID) integrate a proprietary microwave design using stereo Doppler along with passive infrared technology. The microwave technology detects the motion of the intruder, and the infrared detects a change in IR radiation as the intruder moves through the field of detection. The combination of these two technologies provides a reliable and powerful solution.
PIRAMID sensors offer highly reliable volumetric protection over a wide variety of extreme environmental conditions. Advanced signal processing for each of the two technologies provides immunity to randomly moving targets such as vibration, moving vegetation and temperature variations. Special filtering is included to enable exceptional immunity to birds and small animals.
- Stereo Doppler Microwave Sensor: Two receiving channels with the ability to eliminate vibration and periodically moving objects as sources of false alarms.
- Dual Element Infrared Sensor: Ignores normal temperature variations yet is very responsive to rapid infrared changes created by an intruder.
- Microprocessor Controlled: Proprietary integrated circuit design provides enhanced digital signal processing for both microwave and passive infrared technologies.
